Cutting Guard: Loud Chamber Jazz Cutting Guard was originally formed a number of years ago to perform more complex pieces composed while attending UC Berkeley. An energetic jazz improv group, Cutting Guard quickly disbanded, only to be revived this past year, using the nucleus of the groups Telepathy and Nathan Clevenger Group. Cutting Guard combines influences ranging from modern composition, adventerous jazz, eastern eurpoean folk music, balinese gamelan, punk, indie rock and metal. Compositionally, a more linear approach is taken (not too dissimilar to Aaron's writing in Telepathy) as opposed to the chordal approach of Gubbish. Cutting Guard comprises of Patrick Cress on saxophones, Cornelius Boots on clarinets and saxes, Aaron Novik on clarinets, Nathan Clevenger on guitar, David Arend on bass and Tim Bulkley on drums.
