Gubbish: Avant Gypsy Jazz Aaron Novik's Gubbish was started about 4 years ago to explore simple song forms combining diverse influences, heavy on eastern european folk and klezmer as well as jazz. The band uses unusual time signatures, adventerous harmonies, and a unique instrumentation to create a quirky yet melodic sound. The band features Darren Johnston on trumpet, Aaron Novik on bass clarinet, Dan Cantrell on accordion, John Finkbeiner on guitar, David Arend on bass, Ches Smith on drums, and Sameer Gupta on tabla. Gubbish recently released it's first cd entitled "Notations in Tonations" available now on "odd shaped case" records. Aaron recently premiered a new work for this group entitled "the Samuel Suite" influenced by his grandfather's immigration to the U.S. during the 20's.
