Kipple was created after a many year long dillema on what to do with the original "electric" line up for Gubbish. The Bitches Brew-esque instrumentation of two keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and bat (Tom Nunn's homemade amplified percussion gizmo) didn't seem to convey the Gubbish song form adequetely, so a new song form was created.
With a heavy nod to Fela, James Brown, Miles as well as Steve Reich and John Adams, kipple's songs are conducted by Aaron with a series of hand cues designating what each member of the band should do, creating a new compositional structure each time the piece is performed.
Kipple's current line-up is Graham Connah, Mitch Marcus and Daveed Behroozi on keyboards, John Finkbeiner on guitar, Lisa Mezzacappa on bass, Tim Bulkley and Vijay Anderson on drums, Moe! Staiano on bat and Aaron Novik on conducting and composing duty.
Kipple's debut cd, "Flashes of Irrational Happiness" came out in October of 2006, and there will be a cd release party on December 15th at the Hemlock to celebrate.
