Maccabeats: Traditional Jewish Folk Music The Maccabeats were formed in early 2004 to explore traditional jewish music. The group has become an integral part of the eastern european dance music scene, performing at many local clubs, cafes, weddings, and even the occasional bar mitzvah. Our repertoire ranges from traditional arrangments to original compositions to unconventional interpretations of classic klezmer tunes. In 2005 Aaron Novik was commissioned to write a piece for the Saint Joseph Ballet, and the Maccabeats flew to Orange County to perform this music live to Director Beth Burns' choreography. The band consists of Dina Maccabee on violin, Dan Cantrell on accordion, Aaron Novik on clarinet, Mark Bolin on tuba and Jason Levis on drums.
